I have been away from DA for a couple of weeks only to come back and find I have been tagged in two journals!
Here goes number 1!
Tagged by
★. You must post these rules.
★. Each person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
★. Answer the questions the tagger set for you, and create 10 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
★. You have to choose 10 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
★. Go to their pages and tell them you have tagged her/him.
★. No nonsense in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you're reading this."
★. You have to tag 10 people.
10 random things about me
1. I can flip coins off my elbow and catch them
2. I have two horses and have been riding since I was 3 years old
3. I grew up in Spain and can speak Spanish.
4. I attended Imperial College London and have a Bachelors and a Masters in Biology
5. I work in medical communications
6. I never buy video games when they are first released no matter how much I'm looking forward to playing them
7. I love reading and always have to have a book on the go or I can't sleep
8. I'm a sucker for a horror movie – but only the supernatural/scifi ones
9. I get a little sad when I'm cosplaying a character and I don't really need to style the wig
10. I like the Spanish dub of Dragonball but I don't like the English version
Violet-Gray's questions:
1. Have you ever dropped a costume/out of a group?
Only when others have dropped out of the group leaving me the last man standing. When I give my word, it's because I'm 99% sure I can keep it. I will therefore not agree to a group on a whim though I may show a lot of enthusiasm and let you know I'll get back to you.
2. What's the weirdest present you've ever gotten?
A maths book...
3. How do you keep your projects on track?
I write timelines, budgets and to-do lists. I'm known for being organised.
4. How do you handle the price/accuracy issue? Pretty costumes made with the right fabric can cost and arm and a leg and at the end of the day it's just a costume and just a hobby. So do you compromise?
It very much depends on the costume and the compromise. I recently drew the line at £18 per half metre fabric because the look is achievable at a fraction of the cost. I am a stickler for accuracy but I believe that with a little creativity and imagination things can often be done more cheaply
5. What's the best act you've ever seen? ( link or short description)
Well I just saw this fanvideo and OMG all the warm fuzzy feelings:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BPJ31…
6. How do you keep yourself from just throwing everything out a window and picking up different hobby?
It's never really been an issue. I'm organised and quite a logical thinker so I spent a lot of time theorising and researching a costume before I start making. It reduces the error ratio.
7. Cosplay has a lot to do with looks, so how do you keep your body in shape? (no depreciating comment allowed )
Well I've always been around horses so that gives me a good base level. In winter I tend to not exercise much but when the days are long enough to allow it. I will also run 3miles four times a week. For my first cosplay, Rikku from FFX-2, I went from a 28 inch waist to a 24.5 inch waist. I now hover around the 25.5-26 inch range.
8. I have somehow of an issue with out of place cosplay, for example, Sherlock costumes at an all anime event or anime characters at a comic con. What's you view on this?
I say live and let live. I try to cosplay appropriately for the event but I wouldn't cosplay something I didn't want to just to fit in and I wouldn't hold other people's choices against them.
9. Is your house a temple to your hobby or do you keep it contained?
It's contained for now but spreading. Storage becomes an issue after a certain number of costumes and there is no compact way to store armour!
10.How many costumes do you make, on average a year?
Hmm... well I don't have a big enough sample size to average. The number is currently increasing. 3 in Year 1. 5 in Year 2. 7 and counting in Year 3. I guess it depends on the complexity of the projects.
Now for my line up:
1. What's your most ingenious cosplay discovery?
2. You kicked a puppy: why?
3. What is your favourite material (fabric, glues, etc.)?
4. How do you choose materials for a cosplay?
5. How far in advance do you plan a cosplay?
6. The character you want to cosplay is never shown from behind so you have no back references: What do you do?
7. Cosplay competions: Yay or Nay? Why?
8. How did you start cosplaying?
9. Who are you in the real world?
10.What does cosplay fame mean?

I have been invited to compete in the Cosplay City cup - a new European competition. It's been a crazy few weeks as the invitations were only sent out mid-Feb and after spending a week deliberating, checking finances, etc. I decided to go AND decided to make a new cosplay as well. As a result my life has been taken over between work, my horses and making this damn cosplay in far too little time; an interesting challenge. I haven't had a chance to respond to a few messages either (Sorry!) as a result but you are not forgotte
